Real Sociedad hires new coach Asier Garitano

MADRID (AP) Spanish club Real Sociedad has hired Asier Garitano to be its coach for the next three seasons.

Garitano had been with Leganes since the 2013-14 season, leading the southern Madrid club from the third division to the top tier in only three years.

Leganes finished 17th in the first division in each of the last two seasons. This year it eliminated Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, eventually losing to Sevilla in the semifinals.

Real Sociedad finished 12th in the Spanish league.

The Basque Country team fired Eusebio Sacristan in March after poor results, and finished the season with interim coach Imanol Alguacil.
