Gomez made his major league debut last season with Boston, hitting .275 with two home runs and 17 RBIs in 37 games.
Analysis: The 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of the Dominican Republic has a .281 average in the minor leagues with 130 home runs and 512 RBIs over nine seasons. To make room on the 40-man roster Monday, the Blue Jays designated right-hander David Bush for assignment.
