Analysis: An absolute flop as a starter last season, Severino has shown flashes of brilliance in his first two turns through the Yankee rotation, though he delivered an uneven performance at Baltimore in his season debut. The 23-year-old rates as an intriguing play when he next takes the mound Tuesday at home against the White Sox.
|Mar. 30 10:33 AM PT11:33 AM MT12:33 PM CT1:33 PM ET13:33 ET17:33 GMT1:33 10:33 AM MST12:33 PM EST1:03 PM VEN21:33 UAE12:33 PM CT-Severino has earned the fourth spot in the Yankees' starting rotation. A fifth starter likely will not be needed until April 16.
Analysis: Severino, 23, has tremendous promise but went just 3-8 with a 5.83 ERA in 11 starts and 11 relief appearances last year. ''We didn't think there was one guy that really stood way above,'' manager Joe Girardi said. ''I thought Sevie did a better job. I believe Sevie has the ability to perform. There's things he has to do, pitching down in the zone is one of them. Location is really important for Sevie.''
