Yankees LF Gardner out 3 to 4 more weeks
NEW YORK (AP) Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is going to need three to four more weeks of rest for his strained right elbow.
Gardner saw Dr. Timothy Kremchek on Thursday for another opinion on the elbow that has kept him out of action since April 18. Kremchek gave Gardner a platelet-rich plasma treatment and a cortisone shot.
Dr. James Andrews said Monday that Gardner needed the extended rest and should wear a brace on his non-throwing elbow. Andrews confirmed Garnder had a strain, bone bruise and joint swelling in the elbow but not a torn ligament.
Gardner has cut short two minor league rehab assignments because of discomfort.
Also, the Yankees activated right-hander David Robertson from the 15-day DL and optioned right-hander David Phelps to Class A Tampa.
