(TSX / STATS) -- Doug Fister's solid comeback campaign with the Boston Red Sox last season was enough to earn him a spot with the Texas Rangers in 2018.

The Rangers signed the veteran right-handed pitcher to a one-year contract for next season, the team announced Tuesday. The deal includes a club option for the 2019 season.

Fister, who will be 34 next season, joined the Red Sox off the waiver wire last June following an injury to ace David Price and earned a regular spot in the rotation, going 5-9 with a 4.88 ERA over 18 games (15 starts).

He had a career-best strikeout rate of 8.3 per nine innings last season.

Fister tossed a complete-game one-hitter in Cleveland on Aug. 22. He started Game 3 of the Red Sox's American League Division Series with eventual World Series champion Houston, allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings.

After making his major league debut with Seattle in 2009, Fister went on to pitch nine major league seasons with the Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals and Astros.

He has a career 82-85 record with a 3.68 ERA and 930 strikeouts in 230 career games (214 starts).
