Jackson, Cooks, Mississippi State women light up Troy 103-76
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) Rickea Jackson and Sidney Cooks combined for 56 points and 12 3-pointers and No. 13 Mississippi State hit a record 18 3-pointers and rolled to a 103-76 victory over Troy on Monday night.
Jackson scored 30 points, four shy of her career high, going 6 of 10 from 3-point range. Cooks added a career-high 26 points, hitting 6 of 11 behind the arc. Neither had hit more than three triples in a game.
Aliyah Matharu added four 3-pointers and 16 points for the Bulldogs (3-1), who bounced back from a 67-63 loss at South Florida by making 18 of record 37 attempts behind the arc and shooting 54%. The previous MSU record for 3s was 14 against Iowa State in 2001.
Jackson and Cooks had 27 points in the first quarter, making seven triples, as the Bulldogs scored 36 points and led by 22. Cooks had a pair of 3s and eight points in a 10-0 run to start the quarter and Jackson had 10 points, including two baskets behind the arc, in a closing 15-0 run.
Mississippi State went 13 of 26 from distance and shot 56% for a 63-27 halftime lead. Jackson had 18 points and Cooks 17 at the break.
Alexus Dye scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Troy (3-2). Tyasia Moore added 14. The Trojans went 5 of 23 on 3s and shot 35% overall.
